The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confirmed there will not be a wolf hunting season in Wisconsin, according to a Wisconsin State Journal report. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White in Oakland, California, restored protections for gray wolves after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had failed to show wolf populations could be sustained in the Midwest and portions of the West without protection under the Endangered Species Act. State law requires the DNR to hold a hunting season between November and February whenever the wolf is not listed as endangered. The new federal ruling means the state is no longer authorized to hold a hunt.
