Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul has joined a group of 24 states and two cities in suing the Trump administration, stating that a new rule by the administration violates the National Environmental Protection Act, according to a story from Urban Milwaukee. The lawsuit opposes the Environmental Protection Agency’s attempt to revoke the portions of a waiver it granted California in 2013 that permits the state to implement its greenhouse gas and zero-emission vehicle standards.
The suit asserts that the Trump administration rule will drastically curtail environmental reviews for projects undertaken, permitted, or funded by nearly every federal agency. Proponents of the rule say the change eliminates unnecessary review and delays for projects. Along with Wisconsin, states and territories involved with the lawsuit include California, the District of Columbia, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Guam, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
