The city of Superior has joined Madison and Dane County in passing a moratorium on data centers.
The city passed the moratorium on Tuesday as nearby Minnesota city Duluth considers a data center complex from Google, Wisconsin Public Radio reported. Google’s data center would span 1.8 million square feet and cost $2 billion.
Superior’s resolution sets a one-year moratorium on data centers in the city.
Superior does not have a definition of small or large data centers in its zoning regulations.
The moratorium will now go to Superior’s planning commission for recommendations.
