The River Food Pantry saw another busy year in 2024, with a 19% increase in population served, the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
The nonprofit served more people last year in the week leading up to Thanksgiving than it had served in the 18 years since it opened, with 1,558 households totaling 3,808 people served. It also broke records two days in a row for the most households served in a single day, with 467 on Nov. 19 and 507 on Nov. 20.
Demand for the food pantry’s services has been trending upward since 2020 and is continuing in 2025, with 15,000 people served through the end of June. The River Food Pantry is also set to move into a new space, currently under construction at 3301 Packers Ave. on Madison’s north side, by the end of this year.
