Program grants to be distributed on behalf of the UW Credit Union Fund for Racial Equity to organizations in Dane County and metro Milwaukee total $1.5 million, according to a statement from the organization. The UW Credit Union, in partnership with United Way, will award 27 organizations with racial equity program grants. Nineteen organizations in Dane County will receive one-time grants ranging from $25,000 to $200,000 for a total program investment of more than $1 million. The combined $1.5 million is on top of the $500,000 in emergency funds granted earlier this month. Recipients and their corresponding programs are:
- Black Chamber of Commerce, Financial Matters;
- Latino Chamber of Commerce, Expanding Capacity For the Latino Chamber of Commerce; through support of their free, bilingual economic courses “Tu Empresa” and “Avance”;
- Odyssey Project, Odyssey Expanded;
- Progress Center for Black Women, The Financial Health Academy;
- East Madison Community Center, AIMMS;
- Latino Academy, Equity in the Transportation Industry;
- Maydm, Maydm: Changing the Face of STEM;
- Neighborhood Food Solutions, Madison Food Justice;
- Mentoring Positives, White-Red-Black Zones Pathway to Equity;
- EOTO, Lyrics and Leaders;
- Big Brothers Big Sisters, MentorU;
- NewBridge, Bridging the Technology Gap;
- Omega Schools, Young Mothers Program (BIPOC);
- Christ the Solid Rock Baptist Church, Resilient Youth Academy;
- Fair Opportunity Project, Pembe;
- Charles Hamilton Houston Institute Inc., Dear Diary;
- Operation Fresh Start, CareerScape Counseling Program;
- Wisconsin Regional Training Program | BIG STEP, Industry Success Coach; and
- Sankofa Education Leadership United, Connect the Dots.
