What are the challenging and rewarding aspects of your job?

One of the most challenging aspects is witnessing the barriers that so many Black entrepreneurs face when trying to access resources, funding and networks that are often more readily available to others. It takes consistent advocacy, creativity and collaboration to bridge those gaps.

The most rewarding part is seeing what happens when those barriers are removed — when entrepreneurs gain the tools, knowledge and connections they need to thrive. Every success story fuels me to keep pushing for more equitable opportunities in entrepreneurship.

Who do you look up to or admire in business?

The entrepreneurs who I mentor through the Progress Center’s FOCUS accelerator. Many of them are building businesses while balancing family, work and community responsibilities. Watching them take risks, overcome barriers and stay committed to their visions inspires me.

What has been the high point of your career so far?

Co-creating the FOCUS entrepreneurial training accelerator. Seeing how it has guided entrepreneurs across diverse sectors, helping them secure storefronts, boost their media visibility, and expand their businesses successfully has been incredibly rewarding. Working at the center has also opened doors for me to grow as an entrepreneur and leader, from public speaking to becoming an author, which is important to me as a single mother trying to be the best possible role model for my son.

What advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

Talk kindly to yourself, invest in yourself, prioritize yourself and continue to have faith in who you are and where you are going. Don’t let your fears hinder you. Become comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to achieve your goals.

What are the best things about Dane County?

The network of people I work with has been a great way to expand my mind, learn new perspectives and gain knowledge to grow my skills. I enjoy being a part of a mission to bring more diversity to the entrepreneurial community within Dane County.

Do you have any secret talents or abilities?

I enjoy writing poetry and cooking from scratch — a passion I’ve shared through social media reels featuring everything from soul food classics to creative pasta dishes. I’ve also discovered a love for teaching fellow introverts how to embrace their quiet strengths and build confidence.
