Fitchburg’s Monkeyshines Bar & Grill reopened Monday, rebranded as Cornerstone Grill, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. The move follows an increased number of police calls and public safety concerns since 2021 and comes as part of a general improvement plan.

Owner Cory McMahan is working to rehabilitate the image of the establishment at 6209 McKee Road, which has been in his family since 1978. The business had closed July 1 for minor remodeling, and McMahan brought on Shelly Skinner, who recently closed the Mazomanie location of My Sister’s Kitchen — a breakfast and lunch spot — to head Cornerstone’s kitchen with Monkeyshines chef Tre Maue.

The 3,000-square-foot bar will have new hours, a new logo, an updated look and new food choices, bringing back hot-plate meals the business used to offer as well as new breakfasts and homemade soups from Skinner.
