The Fitchburg City Council on Tuesday voted to renew Monkeyshines Bar and Grill’s liquor license despite public safety concerns related to the establishment, WMTV15 reports. The 4-3 vote was accompanied by discussion of improvement plans for the bar, which has seen police responses for multiple stabbing instances and shots fired since 2021.
Owner Corey McMahan, among other plans to improve safety, said he will close the bar at 11 p.m., a move supported by many alders. The council will be monitoring the business’ progress moving forward.
