1. What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?
The most challenging thing about working in marketing is trying to keep up! Things are changing faster and faster and it’s a skill in itself to stay on top of these trends, especially being a one-person marketing team. One of the rewarding aspects of marketing is that it never gets boring! I’m also on the board of the AMA Madison, which really is one of the best resources for constant learning.
2. Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?
Gosh, there are so many people, but if I had to choose just one I’d choose one of my closest friends, Kelly Kloepping. I’ve known her for a good majority of my life and she actually inspired me to work in marketing/communications — though I’ll never live up to what she can do, she has been an amazing act to follow and learn from! She’s taught me how to go after what I want, some great networking skills, and the ability to put myself out there more. Because of this, I’ve landed some really great opportunities. She’s been an amazing role model and mentor — and a little secret, she also used to be my babysitter back in the day!
3. What has been the high point of your career so far?
The highlight of my career was leaving a job I was at for 12 years last May. I finally took that risk that I maybe should’ve done years earlier, but was too afraid to do. It was scary but I learned so much about myself along the way that I haven’t looked back since. It’s helped me to grow not only personally but professionally, too. I’m really excited to see what’s next!
4. Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
To take more risks. I was always safe in all of my choices and now that I know what I know, I would definitely take more chances. I’d also move away for a bit, too, and learn how business is conducted in other places outside of Wisconsin.

5. What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?
I love living and working in Dane County, especially Madison. My favorite things about both are the people. People here are genuine and willing to collaborate and answer any questions you have. And people here love to help others and I don’t think you can find that very often in bigger cities. It’s a unique quality of Madison. I also love the variety of events in Madison. Sports, theatre, live music — we have it all, not to mention great food and drink! There is so much to do; if you’re bored, it’s your own fault.
6. Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?
Not sure if it’s a talent or if I was very good, but I was very active in music and theater when I was in high school. I miss it. The only place I sing now is in my car.
7. What are your guilty pleasures?
I love teenage drama shows like The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, and Dawson’s Creek. It drives my husband crazy, but I get sucked in — thank you to Netflix for letting me relive my youth!
