As it prepares to host its annual Users Group meeting this week, Epic Systems is reportedly under federal investigation for allegedly violating antitrust laws, according to an Aug. 14 article from Reuters.
According to the news service, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission has contacted people in the health technology field about how the Verona-based Epic provides or withholds health data.
An Epic spokesperson denied the company, which holds the medical records of millions of patients through the web portal MyChart, engages in anticompetitive behavior.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate in that state, filed a lawsuit in Tarrant County Texas against Epic in December 2025.
In the lawsuit, Epic is accused of withholding patient data from competitors through fees and other restrictive practices.
In response, Epic said in January 2026 that the lawsuit is a partisan attack and has petitioned the court to dismiss it.
