Verona’s Epic Systems, the medical record technology giant for the health care industry, is facing a new lawsuit that claims it is running an illegal monopoly and restricting parent access to children’s medical records, Wisconsin Public Radio reports.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed the lawsuit against Epic on Dec. 10. In it, Paxton accused the company of pushing out competition and limiting access to data.

The lawsuit accuses Epic of running an “anticompetitive playbook” to maintain a health records “monopoly.”

Paxton is a Republican running for the U.S. Senate in Texas. He has a history of filing lawsuits, having filed about 100 against Joe Biden’s administration. He also tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in other states, including Wisconsin.

Epic told WPR that the Texas lawsuit is “flawed and misguided.”
