The Universities of Wisconsin reports a third year of increased enrollment across state universities, with the number of new freshmen hitting a new record, according to a Wisconsin Public Radio report.
While international student enrollment fell by more than 7%, overall enrollment has increased slightly by just under 200 students to a total of 164,626.
UW-Whitewater recorded the highest gains, with 515 more students enrolling this year. UW-Green Bay enrolled 331 more students, UW-Stevens Point gained 281 and UW-Milwaukee grew by 226.
Only three of the 13 four-year campuses recorded declines, with UW-Oshkosh hit the hardest, dropping by 773 students. UW-Eau Claire dipped 513 students, and UW-Madison dropped 310.
This is the first time since 2010 that the universities saw consecutive growth for three years running. The gains were credited to a record increase in freshmen.
UW-Madison’s decline is due to a loss in international student enrollment.
