The companies, people and issues shaping business in Madison and the Capital Region.

1. What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?

The most challenging aspect is the work vs. home balance. With young kids, you want to be at their concerts, games, and events. You want to coach them and be part of their experiences. However, being a decision-maker and having client relationship responsibilities with a growing accounting firm takes a lot of time and effort.  Balancing the two is a constant battle.

The most rewarding aspect of my job is helping individuals and businesses achieve their goals.  It is helping clients take their businesses the next step, whether it is through knowing their businesses and how to limit taxes or through helping their businesses grow.

2. Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?

One person I admire is Lisa Hartig of Complete Mobile Dentistry. She is an individual that manages a very successful business and a very successful family with the help of her husband, Ken. I am amazed by her constant positive attitude and I try very hard to adopt that same mentality.

3. What has been the high point of your career so far?

The high point of my career has been recent hirings at our firm. The people that we have been able to bring into this firm over the last 6 months are a reminder that what we are trying to accomplish is being accomplished.

4. Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

At 21, I wasn’t ready to have a career. My advice would have been to enjoy yourself as much as you can but to never avoid your responsibilities.

5. What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?

For me it is living in Verona and having a neighborhood where everybody knows each other and can rely on each other for help. All of our families are growing up together and because of that I have made lifelong friends.

6. Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?

I have a passion for coaching young athletes. I think I would have been very happy being a coach in a high school or grade school.

7. What are your guilty pleasures?

I love the outdoors and more than once I have gotten lost walking through the woods. I hunt every year with my father and it’s assumed that I’ll get back late one night as I’ve just decided to pick a direction and walk.
