City of Verona ranks No. 1 in Dane County for net new construction

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s 2024 Net New Construction report found the city and town of Verona to be among Dane County’s fastest growing municipalities, according to The Verona Press. The city of Verona’s net new construction growth rate is 5.3% — Dane County’s highest.

That growth rate represents $211 million in net new construction, including (approximately):

  • $65 million — Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals;

  • $56 million — new multifamily and mixed-use buildings;

  • $42 million — Epic Systems;

  • $35 million — residential new construction; and

  • $13 million — general commercial and manufacturing.

The town of Verona, with a net new construction growth rate of 4.71%, ranked third in the county, due in large part to its comprehensive land use plan and a new subdivision ordinance requiring conservation subdivisions, according to Town Chair Mark Geller.

The net new development increases for budget year 2025 across the rest of Dane County are as follows:

  • Village of DeForest — 4.98%;

  • Village of Cottage Grove — 4.35%;

  • Village of Windsor — 3.93%;

  • Town of Westport — 3.70%;

  • City of Stoughton — 3.54%;

  • City of Sun Prairie — 3.33%; and

  • City of Fitchburg — 2.97%.
