Local high school students will get an inside look at how a new home is built during the Madison Area Builders Association’s 5th annual Fall Career Day on Oct. 14.

Over 200 students from nine area schools are expected to explore construction careers during the program, which will be hosted at Veridian Homes’ Hill Valley neighborhood in Madison.

Students will move through eight homes and lots in different stages of construction as they learn how a home goes from an empty lot to a finished product.

Career Day will also include information about training available through the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center and Madison College.

Chad Lawler, executive director of MABA, said in a press release that despite recent impediments to home building such as high interest rates, material delays and cost increases, the Madison market continues to see high demand for housing.

“In turn, we need more and more youth and young adults to join the construction industry,” Lawler said. “Nationwide, there are a projected 2.2 million openings in the construction industry that need to be filled by 2027.”
