What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?
The challenges are what keep me going. I love solving problems; it’s like a puzzle to me. The two most rewarding parts of my job are, 1) helping our customers find great glasses — glasses that fit well and look great are a confidence booster for anyone, and 2) getting feedback from customers on our wonderful customer service and selection of frames. I’m really proud of what we offer. My staff is amazing and so are our products.
Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?
I admire Sandy Eichel, my financial advisor, coach, and friend. She has such a passion for what she does, a fearless attitude, and is always her authentic self. She just wants to help others succeed. When you are passionate about helping others you will have success.
What has been the high point of your career so far?
Buying the business in 2010. It’s been my biggest life challenge, but also the best. I’ve grown a lot as a person and am proud of what I’ve accomplished.
Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
I know it’s been said before, but don’t sweat the small stuff! Focus on the big picture and your goals, and concentrate on the steps it takes to get there. Also, figure out your strengths and weaknesses. Hire people who excel at what you don’t because you can’t do everything.

What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?
Madison is such a wonderful place to live. It’s a small city that has a lot to offer. I love the diversity of people and places, and I can’t seem to keep up with all the new restaurants that keep popping up.
Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?
I love creating, so I am constantly tinkering with things. I am currently working with a company on developing new and innovative products. I also enjoy healthy cooking and experimenting with recipes. My husband jokes about how we will never eat the same thing twice, because I’m always modifying recipes.
What are your guilty pleasures?
One of my guilty pleasures is shopping and finding good deals and savings, and not just for myself. I even enjoy grocery shopping. When you get to the point where you have three bottles of ketchup in your pantry you know it’s time to slow down!
