The companies, people and issues shaping business in Madison and the Capital Region.

What are the most challenging and rewarding aspects of your job and why?

I never set out to become an author, so self-promotion is new to me. Social media is my biggest challenge. LinkedIn gives me a panic attack! I am trying to surround myself with those who can guide and teach me the ways of “the Force.”

The most rewarding part has definitely been the people and kiddos we are meeting and relationships we are creating by sharing our book.

Who do you look up to or admire in business and why?

In Madison, Deb Archer! She has her finger on the pulse of everything happening in Madison and she has the best style! She always looks amazing! I’m a total fangirl!

What has been the high point of your career so far?

Getting Goodnight Madison in the airport! I don’t know why because there are so many great places carrying it, but the airport makes me feel famous!

Thinking back on your career, what advice would you give your 21-year-old self?

Become a travel journalist and a Travel Channel personality. (I don’t think that was a thing back then.) Be great at what you, not good at a bunch of stuff. Have faith, believe in yourself, and travel and sleep more because kids are coming!

What would you say are the best things about living and working in Dane County?

The view of the Capitol never gets old! As a community, we smile at our neighbors and have conversations. Our food scene is eclectic and there are great family activities happening all the time — and even cooler happenings if you have a babysitter!

Do you have any secret talents or abilities that people would be surprised to discover?

It’s not so much a talent but I’m a great vegetable gardener and love processing and canning our harvest. However, I can’t keep house plants alive! It’s February [when I write this], so I just filled the house with this year’s victims. Fingers crossed that 2020 is my year!

What are your guilty pleasures?

Cheesy girly series on Netflix or Amazon. When it happens, I secretly binge-watch every chance I get. Like in the bathroom, at the gym, during sports practices, and in the tub. I’m talking super cheesy shows like Gossip Girl and Vampire Diaries! Currently, I’m into The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which isn’t so cheesy but very, very girly!
