What have you accomplished in your professional life/career since your 40 Under 40 selection?

We have expanded our Weed Man Lawn Care footprint to eight different locations across the country. We have grown to almost $15 million in annual revenue in 2019 from about $3 million in 2012. I was recently awarded the Emerging Leader Award by a national magazine called Lawn & Landscape. We have won the Multi Unit Franchisee Award back to back years among all of the Weed Man franchises in the country. We have also won the Community Champion Award and President’s Choice Award. Currently, we are pilot testing a robotic mowing service called TurfBot in Madison. I am on the board of directors for our state association (WNLA) as well as the community board for the Clean Lakes Alliance. We have also been able to donate to many causes including support for the new construction of the Ronald McDonald Houses in Madison and Boise, Idaho.

What accomplishments, milestones, or endeavors have you attained in your personal life since your 40 Under 40 selection?

Nicole and I have added two more children, Logan and Adalynn, in addition to Dawson. I coach baseball, basketball, and football for my 6- and 10-year-old boys. I have also spent time volunteering to introduce fly fishing to veterans to help fight PTSD.

If you were to “do it all over again,” what (if anything) would you do differently throughout your career?

I wouldn’t say much. If anything, I feel one of my greatest strengths is not repeating mistakes twice. So, I think I need to make the mistake to learn from it.

How did your 40 Under 40 selection help your career?

It was certainly humbling to be considered in this prestigious group. I do think it provided confidence that we can grow our business. It also helped with our company awareness, growth opportunities, and recruitment.

What is something that you have a new passion for since the time of your induction — either professionally or personally?

My motivation has changed from maximizing income to growing and providing opportunities for others. There is nothing more rewarding then seeing people grow personally and professionally in our organization and continue to take on new opportunities due to our substantial growth.

Based on your experience, do you have any advice for today’s young professionals (under 40)?

Hustle. Think like an entrepreneur. Provide electricity in your vision and rally people to it. Treat people well because there is always greener pasture somewhere else, so be someone people want to work for or work with.
