Helbachs Coffee Roasters and Kitchen announced that it has lost its lease in Middleton and will be closing on Aug. 31.

A statement posted on the company’s website stated the closure is due to “continued vindictive and hostile behavior towards Helbachs Coffee taken by Public Health Madison & Dane County.” Health officials have issued the coffee shop three citations for violating the orders requiring face coverings in public spaces. The shop sued county and city officials over the requirement stating it was a “mask-free zone.” Helbachs’ landlord has chosen to not renew its lease.
