February’s run of the Zor Shrine Circus in Madison will mark the end of an era. After this year, elephants will no longer be a part of the show due to concerns about their mistreatment and changing public attitudes toward using animals as performers.
In a Wisconsin State Journal story, animal rights activists celebrated the move, although elephants will continue to be a part of Zor Shrine circuses in other cities.
The show will still go on at the Alliant Energy Center, where the Zor Shrine Circus has been an annual attraction ever since the center opened in 1967.
