According to the Wisconsin State Journal, the proposed $2.5 million redesign for Yahara Hills Golf Course would reduce the number of bunkers, add more forward tee boxes, improve the irrigation system, add more natural areas, and build a new maintenance facility. The plan for the redesign was unveiled in a series of public meetings this week.
The city sold 232 acres on the course’s east side to Dane County in February; the county plans to turn 83 acres of the acquired property into a landfill and use the remainder for open space and a business park.
The $5 million the city gained from the sale will be used to fund improvements to Yahara Hills on Madison’s southeast side, Odana Hills on the west side, and Monona Golf Course.
The Yahara Hills changes would not include new greens or fairways; instead, they would remove existing holes on both the east and west courses, creating a single 18-hole course.
