The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras’ (WYSO) Philharmonia Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra (WCO) will perform a “Side-by-Side” concert on May 18 at 7 p.m. in the Hamel Music Center at UW–Madison’s Mead Witter School of Music.
The program will include Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt and Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. It will be conducted jointly by WCO Music Director Andrew Sewell and WYSO Philharmonia Orchestra Conductor Michelle Kaebish. Tickets are available here.
The WYSO “Side-by-Side” project is a biennial initiative started in 2006 that includes a full day of rehearsals and WCO-led mentoring activities, culminating in a public performance featuring both orchestras. The project aims to provide WYSO members with experiences that not only elevate their musical skills but inspire a lifelong love of the arts.
The May 18 concert is part of an annual weekend-long concert series, sponsored by the Eugenie Mayer Bolz Family, which also includes performances by the WYSO Concert Orchestra; the WYSO Harp Ensemble, Opus One & Sinfonieta Orchestras; and WYSO’s top ensemble, the Youth Orchestra, led by Conductor Kyle Knox.
