Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR) has canceled its three nationally syndicated programs and a statewide show, and is laying off some staff, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Sarah Ashworth, WPR’s director, announced Friday that To the Best of Our Knowledge, Zorba Paster On Your Health, BETA and University of the Air will end this year, and at least 15 employees have been notified that they are being let go.
The changes come as WPR faces increasing financial pressures and has cited an “urgent need to adapt our services.” A WPR release said the network’s budget has seen a deficit in recent years, and federal funding cuts are affecting public radio across the U.S. WPR said the programming decisions “stem from a broader repositioning of WPR resources.”
