The Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center, a 140,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility set to open in 2025, announced Tony Thiry as its newly appointed general manager. Thiry brings decades of experience in facility operations and sports management.

Thiry’s career highlights include his role as vice president of operations at Scheels Arena and Farmers Union Insurance Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Since stepping into the arena industry in 2017, he has led operational transformations, created cost-saving measures, and fostered partnerships to support local sports and youth development. He is also a certified ice rink manager and USA Hockey Level 4 coach.

Located just minutes from Interstate 39/90, the Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center has an expected one-time construction impact of $75 million and a forecasted annual economic impact of $23 million. The Woodman’s Sports and Convention Center is owned by the city of Janesville and operated by the Sports Facilities Companies (SFC), a venue management firm known for developing and operating the country’s top sports and recreational facilities. Upon completion, the facility will create 228 full-time equivalent jobs.

Key features of this facility include a year-round main ice arena, serving as the home ice for the Janesville Jets and supporting community ice sports and other activities; 25,800 square feet of conference space; team locker rooms; coaches’ offices; training spaces; meeting rooms; concessions; and administrative offices.
