After an effort to save and relocate the historic Wonder Bar on Madison’s southeast side, the project that threatened it has been put on hold, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal. The building was scheduled to be demolished for an 18-story housing and commercial space project adjacent to the Alliant Energy Center. The Madison Plan Commission unanimously voted to save the historic bar by pausing the $40 million project that included 291 apartments, 342 parking stalls, and 16,000 square feet of commercial space. The planned project would have razed the Wonder Bar steakhouse and the Coliseum Bar & Banquet.
