The 5th annual State of Women-Owned Businesses Report commissioned by American Express OPEN finds the number of women-owned businesses surpassing the 9.4 million mark nationwide, and growing across Wisconsin as well.

With 129,1000 women-owned firms employing 157,400 in Wisconsin, the 2015 report shows the state ranked No. 8 in the nation based on pre- vs. post-recession growth-percentage (187%).

According to the report, which analyzes trends based on 1997, 2002, and 2007 U.S. Census Bureau data, Wisconsin ranks 40th in the growth of the number of women-owned firms since 1997 (44.6%), and 41st in the growth of firm revenue during that 18-year stretch (58.1%).
