Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce is calling on lawmakers to support new legislation aimed at protecting businesses, individuals, and others from what WMC calls frivolous lawsuits related to COVID-19, according to a release from the organization.

The bill, LRB-6434/2, would create a safe harbor for all property owners or occupants who are good actors against lawsuits alleging a person was infected with COVID-19 at a specific location. Rather than just business-specific, the bill would protect homeowners, nonprofit organizations, schools, universities, and any other premises including outdoor events and festivals. The liability exemption would be lost if an entity knowingly violated a public health order or spread COVID-19 by acting in a reckless or intentional manner. The bill is currently being circulated for cosponsorship.
