The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is conducting a public involvement meeting to discuss proposed improvements to U.S. 51 between Spring Road and Fifth Street in the city of Stoughton and town of Dunkirk. Construction is anticipated for 2025.
The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, from 5–6:30 p.m. at the city of Stoughton Fire Department, located at 401 E. Main St. The objective of this meeting is to familiarize the public with the purpose and need for the project and to obtain input on the proposed improvements.
U.S. 51 from Spring Road to Fifth Street will undergo the following improvements:

Reconstructing the existing two-lane urban section to include a travel lane and bicycle lane in each direction;

Reconstructing sidewalk, curb ramps, and crosswalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards;

Installing a new pedestrian refuge island at Ashberry Lane;

Reconstructing the Fifth Street retaining wall;

Upgrading signal equipment and providing a protected left turning phase at the County N intersection; and

Installing continuous street lighting between Fifth Street and County N.
