The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) in a recent press release issued a reminder to travelers over the Fourth of July weekend to practice safe driving and expect slower traffic in work zones and along major travel corridors.
According to AAA, about 1.4 million people will travel on Wisconsin roads this holiday weekend. Peak travel times are expected between 2–7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, and 2–8 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. WisDOT encourages drivers to check conditions affecting traffic here. Most road construction will pause over the holiday weekend to open as many lanes as possible.
WisDOT offers these safety reminders:

Buckle seat belts and put phones away;

Slow down and remember that posted speed limits apply to ideal travel conditions;

Eliminate distractions such as texting while driving, which is prohibited;

Move over or slow down for emergency responders stopped along a highway with their warning lights flashing; and

Move vehicles involved in a crash out of traffic if no one is hurt and the vehicles can be moved safely.
Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) customer service centers will be closed on the Fourth of July, but DMV online services are open 24/7.
