Wisconsin is struggling with unemployment, with last week’s claims 26.64% higher than the week before and 18.68% higher than last year, according to WalletHub’s updated rankings for the States Where Unemployment Claims Are Increasing the Most.

Key rankings for Wisconsin’s unemployment situation include:

  • A fifth-worst overall ranking;

  • A fourth-worst ranking for unemployment claims’ increase over the previous week;

  • A 13th-worst ranking for unemployment claims’ increase over the same week last year;

  • A 26th-worst ranking for cumulative unemployment claims in 2024 over the same period last year; and

  • A fifth-worst ranking for unemployment claims per 100,000 people in the labor force.
