Wisconsin’s Q1 imports up 9%

The first quarter of 2025 saw Wisconsin’s imports rise by 9% to $10.5 billion, according to the BizTimes. That includes a 20% increase in March alone, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. The state’s exports increased by roughly 2% from January-March to $7.1 billion.

Across the U.S., imports were up over 25% in the first three months of 2025, including a 32% March increase. Exports rose 3% with a 6.5% increase in March.

Wisconsin’s imports from Asian saw particularly notable growth in March. Imports from China rose by 20.8% to $1.78 billion, and imports from the rest of Asia were up 35.4% to $2.39 billion.

Meanwhile, imports from Europe rose 18.4% to $3.37 billion for the first quarter of 2025; imports from Canada increased by 0.4% to $1.68 billion; and imports from Mexico dropped by 32.6% to $1.16 billion. Wisconsin’s exports to two of its top destinations — Canada and Mexico — were down 3.67% and 5.72%, respectively. However, its exports to Europe and Asia rose, respectively, by 11.76% and 6.05%.
