Wisconsin’s 16 public technical colleges will see higher tuition rates next school year, according to The Capital Times. The increase was approved Wednesday by members of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board.
Full-time students, enrolled in 15 credits, will pay an estimated $50 more per semester. Board members examined tuition trends at the Universities of Wisconsin, as well as factors like inflation and student debt, in making the decision, according to Layla Merrifield, president of the technical college system.
The system’s most recent figures show that over 287,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin’s technical colleges in the 2023-24 school year. The system includes Madison College, with its three Madison campuses and locations in Fort Atkinson, Portage, Reedsburg, and Watertown.
The tuition increase is set to yield an additional $4.7 million in revenue across the system’s schools, which are expected to receive a little more than $210 million in tuition during the current academic year.
Wisconsin’s technical college system is also asking for a $45 million increase in state funding over the next two years to keep pace with demand for programs, services, and graduates.
