The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) signed the record of decision (ROD), confirming federal approval of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) recommended alternative for reconstructing I-94 in Milwaukee County. With FHWA’s authorization, the I-94 East-West project can now advance into final design and construction.
The selected alternative to improve the urban stretch of I-94, between 70th Street and 16th Street, includes modifications to interchanges to eliminate left-hand exit and entrance ramps, right-sizing the Stadium Interchange to a diverging diamond interchange, and reconstructing the full corridor with four through lanes in each direction. All improvements are subject to future funding allocations. Utility work and project construction are scheduled to begin in late 2025.
The combined supplemental final environmental impact statement and ROD document will be submitted for publication in the Federal Register. The final study document will be available here shortly. More information on the I-94 East-West project is available online.
