After previously striking down Gov. Tony Evers’ safer-at-home order, the Wisconsin Supreme Court is hearing arguments challenging the emergency powers of the governor in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report from Wisconsin Public Radio.
The latest case argues against the statewide mask mandate and whether Evers has the power to issue multiple emergencies for the same pandemic without the Legislature voting to extend them. The current statewide mask mandate is set to expire on Nov. 21, although the administration could extend it. Limits on public gatherings and capacity restrictions are also at issue, although an appeals court put these limits on hold.
