A federal judge on Monday extended the deadline for counting ballots cast in the state by almost a week after Election Day, according to a report from the Wisconsin State Journal.

U.S. District Judge William Conley made the order just 43 days before the election and it will likely cause official results to not be known on Election Day this year. An appeal, most likely in the U.S. Court of Appeals, is expected. That court or the U.S. Supreme Court could reverse the decision.
