The UW Board of Regents voted on Thursday to approve policy changes to allow for Wisconsin public universities to offer reduced-credit, three-year degrees, the Wisconsn State Journal reported.
The reduced-credit degrees usually require students to complete 90 credits instead of 120, reducing school time by about a year.
The UW system’s regional accreditor, the Higher Learning Commission, issued guidance in 2024 on reduced-credit degrees, prompting institutions to pursue the reduced-credit programs.
Nearly 60 colleges offer or are developing the shorter degrees, with Mount Mary University in Milwaukee the first four-year program in the state to launch a reduced-credit program.
