Enrollment in the state’s public school districts continues to fall, while other types of schools continue to gain students, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
As of September, numbers were down by 13,600 full-time students. This will affect state aid, as aid is based on enrollment numbers.
Over 75% of Wisconsin’s 421 districts lost students this year, while students using state-funded vouchers to private schools rose by about 2,650 students. And the number of students attending independent charter schools rose by about 550.
The Cap Times reports that the Madison school district declined by more than 100 students this fall. It is the first decrease in two years.
