After facing what they describe as a challenging year marked by political pressures, health care workers at Planned Parenthood clinics in Wisconsin have chosen to unionize, The Capital Times, reports.
The results, revealed Thursday morning at the National Labor Relations Board office in Milwaukee, showed 56 votes in favor and 13 against joining the Wisconsin Federation of Nurses & Health Professionals (WFNHP) Local 5000. This union, affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers health care division, represents various health care professionals across the state, including nurses and clinical lab scientists.
While two ballots were contested, they will not impact the outcome. The parties now have five days to submit any objections before the results are officially certified, initiating the bargaining process.
Approximately 135 workers across Planned Parenthood clinics statewide will constitute the union, comprising nurses, clinicians, nurse practitioners, health care assistants, and patient navigators.
The decision in Wisconsin aligns with similar unionization efforts observed in other Planned Parenthood clinics nationwide.
