Good news for movie theaters: there have been good revenue gains this year, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
Numerous blockbuster films in 2026 have helped, as well as Gen Z audiences and filmmakers.
Milwaukee’s Marcus Theaters said June 2026 was the company’s best for revenue in its 91-year history, with record concession sales and the highest box office revenue for June since 2019.
Films aimed at children, but also filled with nostalgia for adults, led the way.
“Toy Story 5” has been a huge success, as has “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which has grossed over $1 billion since it was released on April 1.
Gen Z-directed hits “Obsession” and “Backrooms” have also found large audiences.
