Milk prices for Wisconsin farmers fell another 40 cents in March, according to a preliminary report released Monday by the Wisconsin field office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The final March numbers will be released next month, but the average price Wisconsin farmers were paid last month is expected to average $17.90 per hundredweight. That is 40 cents per hundredweight less than the February price, and $3.10 less than March 2011.

Nationally, the average price is $17.40 per hundredweight, which is down 30 cents from February. The report said the states with the largest declines are New York and Pennsylvania, where prices are expected to fall by 90 cents from February to March.
