The Wisconsin lumber industry is losing sales due to tariffs placed on wood by other countries in a retaliatory action to tariffs placed on lumber imported to the U.S.

Wisconsin Public Radio reports there is an excess of lumber in Wisconsin, and fewer places buying it.

The U.S. added 10% tariffs to imported timber and lumber last week, while imported wood cabinetry has a 25% tariff set to increase to 50% on Jan. 1. Upholstered furniture with a 25% tariff will increase to 30% on the same day.

According to a source cited in the report, demand and prices are down, and wood mills will likely close.
