Wisconsin retained its position as the nation’s top cheese producer in 2024, according to Wisconsin Ag Connection. The state contributed 25% of the total cheese output in the U.S.
Wisconsin produced 1.02 billion pounds of specialty cheese, representing 28% of the state’s total cheese production and an increase of 71.3 million pounds over 2023. Ninety-three of the state’s 116 cheese plants produced at least one type of specialty cheese. Wisconsin’s specialty cheese production rose by 7% overall in response to strong consumer demand.
