Wisconsin Eye shut down operations when it wasn’t able to reach a funding goal for next year, but a new Democratic-led bill may replace it with something similar, Wisconsin Public Radio reports.
Democratic state Rep. Brienne Brown, who represents the 43rd Assembly District in Whitewater, began circulating a bill to create a Public Affairs Network run by the state. The bill would set aside $2 million for the first year of the network’s operations, which would cover the Capitol through unedited live video and audio like Wisconsin Eye.
Additionally, the bill would try to recover Wisconsin Eye’s archived footage.
The state-run endeavor would require $2 million per year in state tax dollars to fund operations.
