Wisconsin banks not as profitable

While more state banks showed profits in the first quarter of 2014, total profits fell 11.7% year over year, according to FDIC reports. Combined earnings as of March 31 were $226 million, down from earnings of $256 million for the same quarter in 2013. Eleven banks showed net losses in the first quarter, compared to 13 in 2013. Banks posting the biggest losses included Westbury Bank, Gratiot State Bank, and Home Savings Bank. Associated Bank showed the highest earnings for the quarter, at $48 million. Wisconsin has 257 FDIC-insured institutions.
