The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s athletic director Chris McIntosh is leaving his role to take a job with the Big Ten, multiple news outlets reported.
“I am honored that Commissioner (Tony) Petitti and the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors believe that I can contribute in a meaningful way to advancing the Conference during this time of unprecedented transformation in college sports,” McIntosh said in a statement.
McIntosh will serve as the Big Ten’s deputy commissioner for strategy.
The role of athletic director became vacant after Barry Alvarez retired, with McIntosh stepping into the job in the summer of 2021.
McIntosh had a history with Badger athletics, having played football for the college and winning two Rose Bowls.
“It is bittersweet to leave the University of Wisconsin, a place that has had such a profound impact on me as a student and as an administrator,” McIntosh said.
Marcus Sedberry will serve as interim director of Athletics in the transition. Sedberry has been a part of UW-Madison since 2022.
