The Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters announced Danielle Harms as director of letters. In this role, Harms will serve as editor of the academy’s signature publication, Wisconsin People & Ideas (WP&I) magazine, lead the WP&I Poetry & Fiction Contest, as well as engage people and organizations across the state to connect and amplify Wisconsin’s literary community.
Danielle Harms is completing her PhD in English at UW–Milwaukee, where she is the faculty advisor for the undergraduate-run journal Furrow and served as the creative nonfiction editor of Cream City Review. She has a B.A. from Gustavus Adolphus College and an MFA in creative writing from George Mason University, where she was an assistant term professor and the editor of Phoebe. Her career started internationally, as an English language teacher in South Korea and Hungary.
Harms has had work published in journals like American Literary Review, New Letters, and Conjunctions. She was listed in the 2023 Best American Essays as a Notable Essay and has received support as a staff scholar at the Bread Loaf Environmental Writers Conference.
Harms will lead the academy initiative, Bloom: a season of poetry, in the first months of 2024. Bloom will encompass a series of events that connect, engage, and celebrate Wisconsin readers, writers, bookstores, libraries, and more. Partnership and sponsorship information is available here.
