Madison’s Willy Street Co-op said seed sales are on the rise as more people are planting and growing their own food.

The co-op uses Seed Savers Exchange for its seeds, and Seed Savers reported a year-over-year seed sale increase of 19% between 2024 and 2025.

The co-op’s local seed start vendors, Voss Organics (Madison) and West Star Organics (Cottage Grove) saw 5% year-over-year increases in sales between 2023 and 2024, and 2024 and 2025.

“Willy Street Co-op focuses on locally sourced foods. We offer many nutritious options grown within 150 miles of Madison. We also offer the tools and guidance for Madisonians to try out gardening for themselves because the less time food has to travel, the more nutritious it is,” Brendon Smith, marketing and communications director for Willy Street Co-op, said in a statement.
