Willy Street Co-op fund has invested nearly $600K in local nonprofits, cooperatives

Willy Street Co-op’s Community Reinvestment Fund (CRF) has invested over $588,000 in local nonprofits and cooperatives since 1992. This fiscal year alone, the co-op allocated $65,000 for innovative projects addressing food justice, sustainable agriculture, health and social engagement, receiving 39 applications for funding.

Highlights from this year’s funded initiatives include:

  • Bikes for Kids Wisconsin — Providing bicycles to those facing transportation barriers;

  • Courageous Journeys Backpacking — Supporting female veterans through healing nature-based therapy; and

  • DANEnet — Offering digital skills training to empower underserved communities.

Willy Street Co-op’s new Rooted In Our Community Fund has also allocated $20,000 to support larger capital investments for a sustainable food system, including projects like a greenhouse for the Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens.
