Willy Street Co-op announced that through community donations and a matching campaign, it has successfully raised nearly $9,000 in disaster relief funds for the California wildfires. From Feb. 2–8, co-op members and shoppers could donate to the cause at checkout, and the co-op would match donations up to $10,000.
As a result of this initiative, Willy Street Co-op raised a total of $8,974.36. These funds will go directly to GlobalGiving’s California Wildfire Relief Fund, which provides immediate assistance to individuals and animals impacted by the devastating fires. Funds will help provide:
-
Emergency medical supplies and food for people and animals;
-
Temporary relief and supplies for displaced families;
Advertisement -
Support for front-line workers, including meals and gas;
-
Long-term recovery efforts; and
-
Assistance for emerging needs as the crisis unfolds.
Willy Street Co-op’s donation match comes from abandoned equity, an unclaimed investment from former owners who left the co-op but did not request a refund.
