According to a recent press release, Willy Street Co-op has partnered with Access to Independence Inc., a nonprofit independent living center that provides services and advocacy to south-central Wisconsin. Through its Accessibility Services Program, all three Willy Street Co-op locations were evaluated and given recommendations to improve their inclusiveness and accessibility for people with disabilities.
Factors evaluated at co-op locations included counters and facilities heights, safety markings signage, ease of navigation, restrooms, entrances, curbs, parking lots, and more, according to Willy Street Co-op and Executive Director of Access to Independence Jason Belougy.
Beyond seeking support to identify improvement opportunities in its stores, Willy Street Co-op is actively implementing recommendations.
Belougy is also the Chair of Downtown Madison Inc.’s Beyond Compliance Taskforce, which meets today at 3 p.m. to discuss a new project to help more Dane County businesses, organizations, and local governments.
